2020 was a year unlike any other, as Covid-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill. Many of us reflected on our lives and what truly mattered during this time. For me, this reflection led to a journey of self-discovery through travel. As I explored new places and experienced different cultures, my perspectives on life shifted, and I started to see things in a new light.
Life can often seem unclear and blurry, leaving us feeling lost and unfulfilled. In these moments, finding purpose and reinventing ourselves becomes crucial. The pandemic forced many of us to slow down and re-evaluate our lives, and for me, it led to a journey of self-discovery through travel.
Through this journey, I was able to reinvent my life’s purpose and discover new passions and interests that I was never capable of tapping into pre-Covid. I’ll be sharing my personal story of how traveling during Covid helped me to reinvent my life’s purpose and find new passions and interests. Through my experiences, I hope to inspire others to embrace travel or anything else for personal growth and reinvention during challenging times.
The Covid-19 pandemic has upended many aspects of our lives, including how we work. With offices closing and people forced to stay home, many companies adapted to a new business method. This has led to a rise in remote work opportunities, allowing people to work from the comfort of their own homes.
For me, this shift toward remote work was a game-changer. It meant I could continue to work and work from anywhere. I was pursuing my passion for travel. I no longer had to choose between my career and my desire to explore the world – I could have the best of both worlds.
Working remotely while traveling certainly came with challenges, but it was also an incredibly rewarding experience. I could work from beautiful locations, such as beachside cafes and desert getaways, which provided me with inspiration and motivation that I could never have found in a stuffy office.
Beyond the picturesque locations, working from home while traveling also gave me more control over my schedule. Most often, due to the time zone, I could wake up to explore before setting off to work or take the morning off to rest, recharge, and start work in the evening, like when I was in country hopping in Europe. This flexibility meant I could create a work-life balance that suited me rather than being confined to a rigid 9-to-5 schedule.
The benefits of working from home while traveling were clear. It allowed me to continue working and earning a living and also gave me the freedom to pursue my passions and explore the world in a way I never thought possible. It was a win-win situation that I feel lucky to have experienced during the unprecedented times.
Before the pandemic, I had always traveled, but it wasn’t until I started traveling during Covid that I discovered a new passion: travel blogging. As I explored new places and experienced new cultures, I wanted to share my experiences with others and inspire them to explore the world.
For those who may not be familiar with what a travel blogger does, it involves creating content that revolves around travel. This can include writing blog posts, taking photos and videos, and sharing tips and advice on everything from budget travel to luxury accommodations.
Becoming a travel blogger has helped me reinvent my life’s purpose in many ways. For one, it has given me a new creative outlet to express myself and share my experiences. It has also allowed me to build a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion for travel and exploration.
But perhaps the most significant way that travel blogging has helped me reinvent my life’s purpose is by allowing me to turn my love of travel into a career. While travel blogging is not without its challenges, it has the potential to be a rewarding and fulfilling career for those who are passionate about it.
During the pandemic, I discovered the joys of slow and solo travel, allowing me to immerse myself in the destinations I visited fully. I also had the opportunity to travel with my family to some amazing locations.
In 2022, I embarked on a summer trip to 11 countries in Europe. This was an incredible experience that allowed me to explore new cultures, try new foods, and see some of the most beautiful cities in the world. I traveled by train, which allowed me to take in the stunning scenery along the way.
I also had the opportunity to travel with my family to some incredible destinations. We visited Savannah, Georgia, known for its charming architecture and delicious Southern cuisine. We also went to Costa Rica, where we spent time in the rainforest. We also went to Orlando, Florida, where we visited relatives during Thanksgiving and summer and enjoyed the sunny weather.
I traveled to Mexico three times during the pandemic. Each time, I had the opportunity to explore new parts of the country and engage in meaningful activities. I volunteered with local organizations, explored ancient ruins, and tried delicious local foods.
My travels during Covid allowed me to reinvent my life’s purpose by exploring new cultures, forming deeper connections with people, and being more mindful. Whether traveling solo, with family or taking part in slow travel, each trip allowed me to see the world in a new light and gain a greater appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our planet.
Traveling during Covid allowed me to explore many new destinations and experience different cultures. I had the opportunity to visit places that I had never been to before, including Egypt, Ghana, and Kenya. These destinations offered me unique experiences and taught me new perspectives that I could never have encountered while staying at home.
During my trip to Egypt, I immersed myself in the country’s ancient civilization history. This inspired me to study and learn more about Egyptian history and culture from the past to the present. Similarly, my visit to Ghana and Kenya introduced me to new cultural practices, languages, and ways of life that I found captivating.
One of the highlights of my travels was experiencing Mardi Gras and the Notting Hill Carnival for the first time.
Mardi Gras is a celebration in New Orleans and other parts of the world, where people dress up in colorful costumes and masks, parade through the streets, and enjoy music, food, and drinks. The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd were infectious, and I felt an instant connection with the local community.
Similarly, the Notting Hill Carnival in London is a two-day event that celebrates Caribbean culture and heritage with parades, music, and food. The vibrant colors, upbeat music, and delicious food made for an unforgettable experience. I felt grateful to participate in this celebration and learn more about the Caribbean culture and traditions.
Traveling during Covid allowed me to discover new destinations and cultures and share new travel experiences with new and old friends. This was particularly important when social interaction was limited, and many felt isolated.
I made new friends while traveling solo, and we would explore new destinations together, sharing our experiences and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Additionally, I could reconnect with old friends I hadn’t seen in years, and we would travel together, catching up on old times and creating new memories in new destinations.
These experiences enriched my travels and helped me build deeper connections with others, which was especially important when social distancing and isolation were the norm. I found that by sharing my travel experiences with others, I could connect with them on a deeper level and inspire them to explore new destinations and experiences.
Traveling during Covid not only allowed me to explore new places and reinvent my life’s purpose but also gave me time to reflect on my future. Being away from the distractions of everyday life and immersing myself in new cultures allowed me to gain a fresh perspective on what I wanted to do in life.
As I traveled, I discovered new interests and passions I never knew I had. I tried new foods, learned new languages, and engaged in activities that pushed me outside my comfort zone. This allowed me to see the world in a new light and opened my mind to new possibilities.
Now, I have a better idea of what I want to do in the future and how these new interests and passions can help shape my life. For example, I discovered a passion for sustainable travel and have made it a priority to travel in an environmentally responsible way. I have also increasingly developed my passion for photography and videography and have started to capture the beauty of the places I visit through my camera lens. Did I also mention I got a drone and scarily fly with super caution? I’ll be a pro one day!
For those looking to use travel to discover their passions, I would advise embracing the unknown and being open to new experiences. Whether trying new food, engaging with locals, or exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations, each experience can teach you something new about yourself and the world.
Traveling during Covid has been a transformative experience that has allowed me to reinvent my life’s purpose and discover new passions for my future. I’m excited to see where my travels will take me next and how these experiences will continue to shape my life.
Traveling during Covid has not only helped me reinvent my life’s purpose but has also allowed me to achieve several travel goals. By setting these goals, I could focus on what I wanted to accomplish during my travels and create a sense of purpose and achievement.
During my solo travels, I set a goal to practice slow travel, allowing me to immerse myself in the culture and experience each destination more authentically. I also set a goal to spend four months traveling in Europe during the summer of 2022, which required careful planning and budgeting. I accomplished this goal and saw some of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities. And returning back in one piece was a blessing.
In addition to solo travel, I also traveled with my family to Savannah, Costa Rica, and Orlando, and we created unforgettable memories together. I also visited Mexico three times, exploring different regions and immersing myself in the local culture.
Through these travel experiences, I have accomplished many things, such as learning new languages, trying new foods, and connecting with locals. These accomplishments have helped me reinvent my life’s purpose by showing me the power of setting and achieving goals and how this can create a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
For those looking to set and achieve travel goals, my advice would be to start by setting realistic and achievable goals. This could be visiting several destinations, trying a new activity, or learning a new skill. Once you have set your goals, create a plan to achieve them, including budgeting, researching destinations, and developing a timeline.
The pandemic has brought unprecedented changes to our lives, including travel restrictions and lockdowns. However, traveling has been a constant source of hope and inspiration. As I look beyond Covid, I am excited to continue exploring new destinations, learning about different cultures, and striving as a travel blogger.
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives, from our daily routines to our ability to travel. However, traveling has provided solace and hope during these difficult times. Traveling has been a valuable tool in helping me cope with the pandemic. It has allowed me to step outside my comfort zone, challenge myself despite uncertainty, and opportunities for personal growth and reinvention.
As the world opens up again, I am eager to continue traveling beyond Covid. My personal experience traveling during the pandemic has solidified my interest in becoming a travel blogger, and I plan to continue pursuing this passion. I am excited to connect with brands and tourism boards, sharing my experiences and influencing others to explore the world around them.
