The best way to discover a new place is by traveling with friends. But if you don’t have any, the next best thing is connecting with others who have already been there and asking them questions about their experiences. Luckily, there are plenty of Facebook groups for black travelers. Before heading there yourself, you can ask questions about specific destinations and find out what others think about them. Some of these Facebook communities even provide helpful information on how to get around, what to do while in town, or even where to eat!
Here are some of the best travel groups:
Facebook groups are a great way to connect with other travelers, share your experiences and get advice from others. If you’re planning a trip to a new destination, it’s always good to reach out to the people who live there.
Facebook groups can help you discover local events and activities you might want to participate in before or after your trip. They can also help find out about local restaurants and places that might not appear in travel guides or online searches.
Black in Tulum is a Facebook group with over 10,000 members created to share information about the area and its attractions. The group also has an Instagram account, which has over 5,000 followers. Black in Tulum is updated regularly by admins who live there. Local guides can help you get around town safely and answer any questions you may have about living there long-term (if that’s something you’re considering). Black in Portugal is a private Facebook group with over 1,600 members. It’s well-moderated, and they have rules regarding acceptable behavior, so you won’t encounter any random trolls or hate speech here. The admins are also very responsive to posts that need attention.
The group was started by two black women: Helena Fonseca (the founder of Black in Portugal) and Lizbeth Lopes (who oversees the account). They’ve clarified that this is not a dating forum and must be treated as such. However, if you’re looking for new friends or advice on living/traveling as a black person in Portugal, this is the place to go!
In addition to discussions about traveling with kids or sharing your favorite Portuguese foods (and where to find them), there are also articles created by people from all over the globe who have lived there for years now—so if you’re planning on visiting soon but aren’t sure how long you should stay or what activities would be best suited for your needs? Check out some of those threads first!
African Americans In Ghana
Traveling to Africa has grown its popularity in the last couple of years with black Americans, all thanks to the progressiveness of Ghana. The country has long been a major transit point between the Caribbean and Central and South America, so you can expect to find plenty of Afro-Caribbean culture in Panama City and other parts of the country. Panama also has one of the largest populations of black expats living abroad on its territory, especially in San Blas!
As such, there are many active Facebook groups that you can join to meet other black expats who have already explored this destination or plan on visiting soon. I recommend joining “Black Expats In Panama” if you are planning on visiting or moving to the beautiful country!
