Veterans Day is a holiday that means quite a lot to me. My father is a veteran and because of his sacrifice, the Veterans of the world hold a special place in my heart. Veterans Day is a holiday that brings communities together to honor the bravery of those who served. In the U.S. we honor our veterans every year through parades, shows, and ceremonies.
So I’d like to use this post as a way to honor those who have fought to protect us. Let’s take a look at some of the best Veterans Day ceremonies throughout the country and how you can pay tribute to the brave this year.
The Veterans Day National Ceremony, Arlington Cemetery
The Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery is one of the most popular on our list. It’s also one of the most honorable and memorable events in the U.S. It takes place annually, each Veterans Day. The ceremony starts with a wreath laying on the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier, followed by speeches, moments of silence, and sometimes a prayer for those who were lost at war.
This event is one of the most significant observances nationwide, and if you’re in the D.C. Area, you should attend this year. It’s free and open to the public!
America’s Parade, New York City
America’s Parade takes place in New York on 5th Avenue, and it’s an event that brings together thousands to honor those who have served. The event starts with a parade but it also includes a Grand Stage for bands to perform, veterans organizations, military vehicles, and large floats.
America’s Parade is one of the oldest Veterans Day celebrations with roots that trace back to 1919. It started as an Armistice Day commemoration, marking the end of World War I. Over the decades, it evolved to honor all veterans who have served the United States and even today, it is the largest Veterans Day Parade in the U.S.
Jacksonville Veterans Day Paradise, Florida
Jacksonville’s Veterans Day Paradise is recognized as one of the top Veterans Day events in the country. It’s held along the coast and pays tribute to our military in such a beautiful way. The event consists of heartfelt celebrations with musical performances, a grand parade, and a speech here and there. I haven’t been to this one yet but I’ve heard it’s by far one of the best.
Chicago’s Annual Veterans Day Ceremony
Chicago’s Annual Veterans Day Ceremony is among one of the best in the country and it’s been known to draw guests from all over the country. This ceremony is held at Soldier Field and it consists of a speech here and there, live music, and color guards. Just remember to bring some tissue with you. This ceremony is known to be very emotional.
Chicago has a very interesting relationship with the veterans of our country and this dates back to the Civil War. As the city grew, it became a spot with quite a few military enlistments so naturally, the city became home to many monuments and events such as the Annual Veterans Day Parade.
Parade Of Heroes, Washington D.C.
The Parade of Heroes in Washington, D.C. is one of the best Veterans Day tributes within the country. Every year, thousands gather along the National Mall to witness the parade, which features veterans from all branches of the military, marching bands, and even historical reenactments that bring military history to life. The event is the perfect way to show off your patriotic side while honoring those who have fought for America’s freedom.
Once the parade is over, feel free to explore the nearby monuments dedicated to veterans such as the Vietnam and World War ll memorials. D.C. is home to many tributes to our soldiers so perhaps take the day to experience everything rather than just the parade.
Denver Veterans Day Parade, Colorado
The Denver Veterans Day Parade is another iconic parade that honors the fight veterans make for freedom. This parade is held in downtown Denver, and here you can witness marching bands, veterans groups, and military displays as they make their way down the street.
However, the parade is not the only Veterans Day event in the city. Over the years, Denver has expanded its commemorative efforts to include events like the Denver Veterans Day Festival, where residents gather to express gratitude in a variety of ways; most of which include having fun!
Veterans Day Retreat, Walt Disney World, Orlando
The Veterans Day festivities at Walt Disney World are undoubtedly some of the best in the country. The Day usually includes band performances at Epcot, one of the four parks at Disney World, and occasionally an airborne salute from the U.S. Airforce. Additionally, at the end of every day, Disney offers a flag retreat which they give the flag either to a Veteran or an active duty soldier at the park.
Though Walt Disney World is likely not the first place you think of when Veterans Day tributes come to mind, however, the parks offer one of the best ceremonies in the country, especially if you are in the Orlando area.
A Tribute To My Dad
As I mentioned above, my dad served in the U.S. Military and his service is something I hold deeply in my heart. Growing up, my dad was a hardworking man, one who would do anything for his family. in 1992, when I was just 8 years old, my dad joined the U.S. military to help support us. With that came a life of travel. We lived everywhere from Georgia to Germany while my dad served.
So, Dad, this post is for you. Thank you for your service and continued dedication to our family and our beautiful country. I love you!
