Washington D.C., is a city that knows how to celebrate, and New Year’s Eve is no exception. This year, I will be spending New Year in my home base, and over the years, I’ve found quite a few spots worth celebrating in.
If you’re planning to welcome 2025 in style, you’ll want to know where the best celebrations are happening. In this guide, we’ll explore five of the top spots in Washington, D.C., where you can toast to new beginnings, dance the night away, and cheer for a New Year ahead! Let’s dive right in!
The Canal Center Plaza is an excellent place to ring in the new year this year, especially if you love to party! It’s along the waterfront in Alexandria and it has some of the best views of the Potomac River, where most of the New Year’s Fireworks are set off.
What makes Canal Center Plaza stand out is its versatility. It’s a great place to hang out with friends, a lover, or by yourself. Either way, it’s a special place to welcome the New Year.
The Potomac River is a great place to watch the fireworks and it’s very close to the Canal Center Plaza. My recommendation would be to bundle up, grab a warm drink, and head on a Potomac River cruise to watch the fireworks, a stunning sight to see and a romantic spot to ring in the New Year.

The National Mall is an iconic spot to celebrate the New Year as it’s the heart of the nation’s capital. The mall offers some seriously awesome views of the Washington Monument and the U.S., Capital so you can get some of the best photos of the skyline and of course, of the midnight fireworks. My recommendation is to eat at one of the local restaurants and then take the time to explore the surrounding area before watching the magic light up the sky!
If you’re in DC this New Year you gotta check out L’Ardente, it’s not only one of the best Italian restaurants in the city, but it also holds an NYE party each year that’s nothing short of legendary. The party usually features live music, tasty cocktails, and a delicious, Italian-inspired menu with lots to offer. I’ve never been to L’Ardente, but It’s my goal to check out at some point.
The Compass Rose is a local spot known for their delish menu and their New Year’s wild parties! Currently, the Compass Rose has a menu that’s inspired by food from around the world, so you can sort of travel through the flavors of each dish. It’s also been voted one of DC’s nightlife spots, so it’s one of those places you have to experience if you want to party through the night and dine on some tasty dishes.
Le Diplomate is a French Bistro located on 14th Street. The restaurant is very cozy, with vintage decor, warm lighting, and a menu that’s a feast for the senses. You have the option of ordering classics like steak frites, escargot, and their famous bread basket that’s worth the visit alone. On New Year’s Eve, La Diplomate hosts a festive New Year’s Eve party with special craft cocktails and a curated wine selection to toast the occasion.
