Annapolis, MD
Annapolis is just a short drive from Washington, DC, and it’s the perfect day trip destination for anyone craving the essence of a small coastal town. Annapolis is known for its historic streets, beautiful waterfront views, and fresh seafood that’s to die for.
I found Annapolis to be quite cute and quaint in a way. You can walk through the brick-lined streets of the historic district, visit the United States Naval Academy, or relax by the harbor with a drink in hand. The city has a very unique way of blending its historical streets with modern-day works. It’s something you have to see in person.
So without a doubt, Annapolis should be on your radar for a quick, daycation in the DC area.

Old Town Alexandria is approximately 20 minutes from Washington, DC, and it’s definitely one of the best daycations from Washington DC. Here, you can learn about the history of the town, as well as enjoy boutique shopping and gorgeous views of the riverside. The streets are cobblestoned and lined with 18th-century architecture. that’s what makes this part of town so special.
There are many things to do here, too. The Town’s waterfront is a very peaceful area, away from heavy traffic. You have the option of taking a boat ride along the Potomac River, which I say is worth it.
Not to mention, the town has quite a history behind it. It was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and was named after its founder, John Alexander. Since then, Alexandria has become a popular historical destination with museums like Gadby’s Tavern and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum.

The streets are filled with colonial-era buildings and iconic landmarks like the Betsy Ross House or even the Independence Hall, which I mentioned briefly above.
